What you'll find there: This website is the online counterpart to the big green Thomas Register books that we shelve by the copy machine. The Thomas Register will go to a completely online format in 2006, and their website currently has all the information contained in the book. This includes information about construction products and services providers across the United States.
- AnnualCreditReport.com
What you'll find there: As a result of the recent implementation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act), consumers can now request one free credit report annually from all three of the major credit reporting agencies (TransUnion, Experian and Equifax). This legislation was designed to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft. This website, a collaboration by the three credit reporting agencies, will allow you to order your credit reports.

What you'll find there: You can find out about all of Texas state parks from this website. The site provides information about the amenities available and history of each park, photos, driving directions, contact information, a link to make camping reservations, information about the plants and animals who live in each park, and more.
- Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
What you'll find there: This project, published and maintained by Stanford University , provides an online encyclopedia of topics relating to philosophy. You can look up terms, specific philosophers and historical periods. The site offers signed articles by experts in the field, each followed by a lengthy bibliography that indicates where you can find additional information on the topic.
- Texas Imported Fire Ant Research and Management Project
What you'll find there: This project, sponsored by Texas A&M, provides insight into the life and times of the imported Texas fire ant. The site includes information about how to treat your yard for fire ants, how to treat fire ant bites, a brief explanation of their relatively recent arrival in our great state, facts about fire ant life and more.
American Religious Data Archive
What you'll find there: The American Religious Data Archive contains all kinds of statistical information about religion in the United States . You can find how many people belong to which religions, which areas of the country have the most houses of worship (by state, county or metro area), look at maps with demographic overlays, learn about various denominations and check out surveys about religion that can be downloaded from the site.

What you'll find there: Did you know the USDA has revised the food pyramid to reflect new dietary guidelines? This website explains the new dietary guidelines, contains an interactive feature that provides personalized information about how much of each food group you should consume every day, meal tracking worksheets, an explanation of each section of the new pyramid and a list of links to other helpful nutrition websites.

What you'll find there: This easy-to-use online dictionary has definitions for thousands of words. Each one includes a pronunciation guide and a short explanation of the word's origin.

What you'll find there: Celebrate National Poetry Month by checking out the Academy of American Poets website. There you can find poems, biographies of poets, a clickable map that shows which poets live in your state, ideas for celebrating National Poetry Month and lots of great links to other poetry-themed websites.

What you'll find there: Part of the Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics website, this page lists the top ten baby names for girls and boys in Texas . It also links a list of the top 1000 baby names for each sex.
- Texas Education Association Student Assessment Division
What you'll find there: Everything you ever wanted to know about the TAKS test, including study guides you can print out for your children, copies of old released tests, a guide to understanding your child's TAKS scores, plus information on how the test was constructed.
- Hometown Locator Community Profiles
What you'll find there: Includes links to census data, maps, crime statistics, business patterns, community organizations, governmental agency websites, local media outlets and commercial enterprises for thousands of U.S. towns and cities.
- Talking with Kids about Tough Issues
What you'll find there: This nonprofit website provides tips on how to talk to your kids about difficult issues such as violence, sex, drugs, and alcohol. If offers suggestions for how to get the converstations started and what to do when your child asks hard questions about these topics. You can also print out booklets on each one of the topics addressed on the website.

What you'll find there: Information provided by the CIA on countries all over the world includes maps, basic statistics like population and size, information about national economies, land use, governments and leaders, very brief country histories and much more.
- THOMAS: Legislative Information on the Internet
What you'll find there: Produced by the Library of Congress, this site allows you to track the progress of bills through the U.S. Congress.
You can look up bills by their number or by their subject. You can also browse Congressional digests, check out what happened yesterday in the Congress and search the Congressional record. The site also provides links to a Congressional calendar, legislative agencies, a Congressional Directory, biographies of Congresspeople from 1774 to the present, plus much more!

What you'll find there: Have you ever wondered about what goes on with our government that isn’t reported in the news? This website pulls together links reports and studies issued by government agencies, NGO’s (non-governmental agencies), and think tanks that influence U.S. policy. You can find reports on diverse subjects from water quality to marriage and divorce statistics.

What you'll find there: This site is the web counterpart to the familiar little blue book. It provides values for new and used cars.
You enter the make, model, mileage and features of the car and the site will give you the suggested trade-in, private party seller and retail value of the car or truck.
- Drug Digest
What you'll find there: Information about drugs, herbs, vitamins, supplements and specific medical conditions. This site includes drug comparisons, photos of pills (including different generic brands), a medication checklist to help you keep track of all the information you need to know about your medicine to stay healthy, and a medical glossary.

What you'll find there: This website is a resource for African Americans who want to trace their family histories. It includes census records, instructions on how to get started researching your family history, death records and links to other African-American genealogy websites

- State Bar of Texas Additional Information for the Public
What you'll find there: Produced by the State Bar of Texas, this website offers resources on selecting a lawyer, filing grievances against a lawyer, information for students who may be looking to law as a career, as well as many very helpful pamphlets with legal information on common issues such as tenants’ rights, the procedure for a pro se divorce, information about wills and estates and more.
- Snopes.com Urban Legends Reference Pages – Christmas Legends
What you’ll find there: Ever wondered where the tradition of the Yule log originated? Why we put a tree in the living room for the month of December? This website explains the origins of some common Christmas traditions and exposes a few holiday urban legends.
- Food and Nutrition Information Center
What you'll find there: Produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Agriculture Library, the Food and Nutrition Center website has a huge amount of information on topics related to nutrition. It includes over 2,000 links to reliable nutrition sources on the internet, including sites such as the Nutrient Data Laboratory, which makes the nutritional content of over 6600 foods available though a free, searchable database. The FNIC offers an A-Z topic list of nutritional information on topics from HIV/AIDS to child nutrition, food labelling, nutrition scams and more. It also includes dietary guidelines formulated by U.S. governmental agencies and information about the USDA food pyramid.

What you'll find there: Produced by the National Library of Medicine, the Household Products Database allows users to find information about the ingredients in brand-name household cleaners, beauty products, pesticides, home repair products, and pet care products. The database offers health-related information on product ingredients as well as information about the proper handling and disposal of common household products.
- Cyndi's List
What you'll find there: Cyndi's List is a huge collection of links to genealogical websites. Some of the sites are free and some are not. Cyndi's List is organized by subject, including sections for people who are just beginning to research their family histories and sections for researching family histories of specific ethnic backgrounds.
- Medline Plus
What you'll find there: Produced by the National Institute for Health, MedlinePlus offers a wealth of free, reliable health information. The website includes a medical encyclopedia, searchable drug and disease databases, articles on health and wellness, plus resources to help you locate health care providers in your area.
- United States Small Business Administration Website
What you'll find there: Information about how to start a small business, including how to write a business plan, to finance your small business, recruit and hire employees, links to government websites with information about employment law and taxation, information about government programs for women, minorities and veterans who wish to start their own small businesses, disaster recovery facts, plus much more.
- City of Texas City Website
What you'll find there: The newly re-vamped website offers information about city services, contact information for city officials, a message from the mayor, information about City Commissioners, the city events calendar, links to local news sources and more.
- Autozone Website
What you'll find there: Repair instructions specific to the make, model and year of your car, plus a sensory guide to troubleshooting problems - you can click on what the weird noise your car is making sounds like, and you get a description of what may be wrong with your car.
- Internet Movie Database
What you'll find there: A huge database of movies that you can search by title, character, director or actor. Includes filmographies (ever wanted to know the name of every movie Al Pacino's been in?), award lists (how many Oscars has Martin Scorsese won?), plus lists of the movies currently topping the box office and a list of movies soon to be released along with brief reviews. Although the focus is primarily on American movies, the database includes foreign and non-English films as well.

What you'll find there: Environmental profiles of Texas counties and the state as a whole, including air and water quality, toxic waste, use of pesticides, information on wildlife biodiversity in Texas , including lists of Texas animals that have become extinct. What you'll find there: Two of the most helpful features of this site are the Diseases and Conditions index and the Drugs and Supplements index. Both allow you to search a long alphabetical list of well-written, concise articles on medical topics. The site also includes a first-aid guide, advice on how to find the right doctor for you, and articles on seasonal medical issues.
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art
What you'll find there: Photos and descriptions of pieces that the Metropolitan Museum of Art owns, an art timeline, virtual tours of museum exhibits, and a special art education section for kids. The site gives you a glimpse of the Metropolitan Museum even if you can't travel to New York .

What you'll find there: Nutritional information and calorie content of foods produced by well-known brands and chain restaurants. Although this site contains a lot of advertising material, it also provides some great information about the nutritional contents of various foods from places like Taco Bell, Jack in the Box and more.
- Federal Trade Commission Website
What you'll find there: Information for consumers about how to protect themselves from fraud. Includes sections on car buying, credit card fraud, health and environmental products and more. Also includes links to the text of laws and regulations governing trade in the U.S. plus a place for consumers to file complaints with the FTC.
