| General Information (FAQs) |
- What is the purpose of this program of this program?
Library programming and summer reading clubs seek to maintain or improve literacy/reading/knowledge skills for all ages. It is especially important for children to practice their reading skills when out of school for the summer break. We seek to keep minds active-learning-and inquiring.
- How do we start the reading club?
Reading logs will be available starting June 1, 2009, the kick-off date for the summer reading club 2009. All children's summer reading clubs are handled directly through the children's department, where participants will pick up and turn in their reading logs and pick up their prizes. Teen and adult reading clubs are handled through the Reference Department, where participants will pick up and turn in their reading logs.
All logs must be turned in by August 15, 2009 in order to receive prizes.
- Do programs cost money?
NO, all programs are free.
Most programs require tickets, which are FREE. Tickets will be available one week prior to the program. First week tickets will be available on June 1st on a first-come, first-served basis until the programs are filled. Then a waiting list will be started. Right before the show starts at the designated time, spaces for ticket holders who have not shown up will be given to those on the waiting list, in order of sign up.
If there is more room available after the waiting list is called, people waiting at the door will be admitted until the program is filled.
After the program starts, NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED.
Due to space limitations, we are unable to accommodate groups larger than 5 in most events.
- What else do I need to know about attending children's programs?
Parents of children under 8 need to attend registered events, and must have a ticket to accompany a child during a ticketed event. Parents can pick up tickets in the children's department. Parents of children 8 and above are encouraged to browse the library or use the computers while their child is in the program. After the program starts, NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED. We ask that people not come and go from the meeting room during a program, as it creates a distraction from the audience and performer. Please remember to turn off cell phones and pagers. No cameras may be used during performances due privacy and security issues.
- Why do we have surveys?
The surveys tell us how close we came to reaching our goals and objectives and how well we served your needs. The State of Texas and other governing bodies need data from these surveys and it helps us plan future programming. Please take the time to fill one out after the program.
Americans With Disabilities Act ( ADA )
Moore Memorial Public Library will make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities interested in using the library and attending programs. Please give advance notice for special accommodations. |

Teen Chapter Chums Needed |
We are looking for teens willing to extend a helping hand to younger readers this summer.
If you are a teenager (ages 12-18) you are eligible to volunteer as a reading mentor chum by listening to young readers practicing their skills.
Teens, what's in this for you? You can either: -"Listen off" your fines or gain Community Service Credit for honor societies or college applications. (We will provide you with "proof" of your service.)
If you are interested in making a commitment to listen to children read, sign up at the Reference Desk of Moore Memorial Public Library for time slots and dates.
Children are encouraged to "read off" their fines to teen mentors. The library does not want fines to keep children from reading this summer! Children are encouraged to clear off their blocked cards and practice their reading skills with a Chapter Chum. Children up to age eleven can reduce their book fines $3.00 for every fifteen minutes of reading.
Please note that this program applies only to book fines and not fines from lost or damaged materials. Children may only read off their own fines, not those of other family members. |
