TITLE OF DATABASE: Texas Digital Sanborn Maps
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This database provides digital access to more than 660,000 large-scale maps of over 12,000 American towns and cities. Founded in 1867 by D. A. Sanborn, the Sanborn Map Company was the primary American publisher of fire insurance maps for nearly 100 years. No maps are consulted more in academic and public libraries.
Sanborn maps are valuable research tools for geographers, social historians, urban specialists, genealogists, planners, local historians, architects, environmentalists, and anyone who wants to learn about the history, growth, and development of American cities, towns, and neighborhoods. Users of Digital Sanborn Maps have the ability to manipulate the maps, magnify and zoom in on specific sections, and easily print them out.
Each large-scale plan contains detailed property and land-use records that depict the grid of everyday life across a century of change. The maps provide a wealth of information, such as building outline, size and shape, construction materials, height, building use, windows and doors, street and sidewalk widths, boundaries, and more. The plans often include information and shading for steel beams or reinforced walls, plus symbols for stables, garages, warehouses, etc. Also depicted are pipelines, railroads, wells, water mains, dumps, and heavy machinery likely to affect the property's vulnerability to earthquake, fire, and flood. Maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, and house and block numbers.
The digital collection was scanned from the microfilm developed from the holdings at the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress's Sanborn collection includes all maps submitted to the library through copyright deposit and a set of maps transferred to the library from the Bureau of the Census. Maps from the bureau include corrections issued by the Sanborn Company that were pasted over the original map sheet.

TITLE OF DATABASE: 20th Century Poetry (American and English) (ProQuest)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
- Twentieth-Century English Poetry offers online access to the poetry of some of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. It incorporates the works of 285 of the most widely studied poets of the British Isles and beyond, including over forty distinguished authors from The Faber Poetry Library. Authors include the established and canonical such as Yeats, Housman, Lawrence, Sassoon, Eliot, Plath, Ted Hughes and Seamus Heaney, popular and accessible figures such as Kipling, Betjeman and Wendy Cope, lesser known but important names like William Empson and W.S. Graham and, among prominent contemporaries, Simon Armitage, Eavan Boland and Carol Ann Duffy. Many of the major themes of 20th century writing -- nationality, politics, war, sexuality, religion and gender -- can be understood anew through this vast and representative collection.
- Twentieth-Century American Poetry - This unparalleled collection includes 52,000 poems drawn from 750 volumes by over 300 poets, including Adrienne Rich, Andrei Codrescu, Ezra Pound,
William Carlos Williams, Denise Levertov, Wallace Stevens, Langston Hughes, Lucille Clifton, and Cathy Song. The majority of the poems included are copyright works specially licensed from print publishers such as New Edition, City Lights Books, Houghton Mifflin, W. W. Norton and Yale University Press. The collection reflects the variety and dynamism of American poetic voices in this century of change: all major movements and schools are represented, form the traditionalism of Robert Frost to the modernism of H.D. (Hilda Doolittle), the confessional poetry of Anne Sexton to the proletarian poems of Muriel Rukeyser. The Imagists, Beat Poets, Harlem Renaissance, Black Mountain and Deep Image schools are all featured. In addition, many contemporary writers of the 1980s and 90s who have gained recognition through national poetry awards or inclusion within leading print anthologies, are also represented.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Through its licenses with different database providers, TexShare offers users access to full-text articles from approximately 17,000 professional, scientific, academic, and medical journals. But because each of the database providers has its own proprietary search engine, sometimes finding a *specific* journal title or topic can be difficult.
TDNet solves the problem by providing a searchable list of ALL the journal titles available to TexShare users from all of the different database providers. This list includes the available holdings and an indication if full-text is available, as well as online coverage and embargo period information. Users with an "authenticated IP-address" can take advantage of direct hotlinks from the search results page. Others can simply return to their main TexShare menu page and click on the specific database that TDNet indicated that their selected journal can be found.
